About Us

Living Forest Communities is a new business model that accomplishes two objectives: it establishes and maintains ecosystem-based forestry practices and forest-based businesses in perpetuity; and it creates the opportunity to develop and sell attractive residential home sites nestled in the forest.

Living Forest Communities is working with municipalities, land trusts and conservation groups to create an atmosphere that allows for innovative land use solutions. Increased environmental consciousness, the need to preserve jobs in the forestry sector, and the desire to curb clear-cut logging and conventional land subdivision has elected officials looking for new business models and Living Forest Communities is the solution.

Simply put, our goal is to immediately acquire land on Vancouver Island and southwestern BC, and place a restrictive covenant on 80 to 90% of the land for sustainable forestry, and value-added manufacturing. On the remaining, least ecologically-sensitive 10 to 20% of the land, we will plan, rezone and cluster a limited number of light-on-the-land building sites for sale as residential homes. By working with municipal planners and partnering with the Trust for Sustainable Forestry and other land trusts including The Land Conservancy of Canada (TLC), we believe that we can obtain a density and entitlement package from the local authorities necessary for success.

In 2002, the federally chartered charity, The Trust for Sustainable Forestry, initiated a successful example of the Living Forest Communities business model on Cortes Island, British Columbia. After researching hundreds of properties on Vancouver Island and discussing the model with numerous elected officials, we are convinced that the Living Forest Communities model will be successful, both politically and financially in other parts of our province.
