Our First
Newsletter!
Welcome
Readers! We are very excited to have our first
newsletter up and running. This Newsletter is
dedicated to sharing knowledge and information, as well
as interesting ideas and information surrounding
sustainable forestry, land use, and land conservation
throughout Vancouver Island and beyond. We
encourage our readers to share their stories,
information or interesting finds with us so we can share
it with the rest of the community. Through
education and information sharing we will be able to to
help sustainability grow in both our personal and
professional lives.
Elkington Forest
Update
Friends of Elkington Forest
Update
Living Forest Communities would like to share
with you a quick update on the latest activities at the
Elkington Forest.
Living Forest Communities and the
associated Trust for Sustainable Forestry recently had
a booth at the 2009 Islands Organic Festival. We met
with hundreds of knowledgeable and friendly people,
gained valuable feedback and added dozens of newcomers
to the “Interest List”.
Throughout the spring and
summer, we have had regular site visits to Elkington
Forest for members of the public, as well as potential
investors and homeowners. Those who have hiked the
land have been keen to see how thoroughly we are
planning for a strong and vibrant conservation
community.
Every month, there are
new people who are giving us “Letters of Intent” to
document in a non-legally binding way that they desire
to live, and in several cases also work, at Elkington
Forest.
We continue to work with
the engineering firm of Worley Parsons Komex and
others in preparing for site servicing,
including planning for an advanced shared sewage
treatment system, a community water system, and the
creation of an integrated rainwater management
plan.
We continue to fulfill
the requirements of the rezoning application fourth
reading, including the technical engineering studies
and planning for fire protection services for the
local and surrounding
communities.
We continue to receive
positive media attention from a variety of journals
and papers. To view the most recent articles,
visit www.livingforestcommunities.com and follow the link to
our ‘media’ section.
If you haven’t had a chance to enjoy a tour of
the property yet, we would love to have you join us, on
the afternoons of:
Saturday July 25th,
Monday July 27th,
or Friday August
7th.
Please RSVP to the number below. In addition, if
you would like a list of future dates in August when we
will be visiting the site, or if you have any questions,
please feel free to call us at 250.386.6600 or contact
